Coronavirus India update: India has had 386 new cases of the since Tuesday but the increase "is not a trend", said a government official as he reasoned travelers from an Islamic congregation in Delhi spreading out across the country for the infection spreading.

The new cases are India’s biggest one-day increase of the disease which has killed 38 people yet. States that have reported cases are carrying out contact tracing and sending those with symptoms to quarantine facilities or hospitals, said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the Health Ministry.
The Worldometer website said India had 240 new cases and 45 deaths.

376 new COVID-19 positive cases in last 24 hrs; spike not national trend: Health Ministry

With 376 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the country in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry on Wednesday said the spike does not represent a "national trend" and was primarily due to travel by those who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the national capital. The Health Ministry in a statement said 1,637 confirmed cases and 38 deaths have been reported in the country as of now.

"During the last 24 hours, 376 new confirmed cases and three new deaths have been reported. 132 persons have been cured /discharged from the hospitals after recovery," the statement said.

An official of the apex court told PTI that all the 33 judges including the CJI have donated Rs 50,000 each to the fund.

No fresh coronavirus case reported from Haryana

No fresh COVID-19 patient was detected on Wednesday in Haryana which has seen 29 coronavirus cases so far.
During the day, no positive case was reported from anywhere and the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 29, a bulletin issued by the state Health Department said. The figure of 29, however, does not include the 14 Italian tourists who were earlier admitted to a private hospital in Gurgaon for treatment.

33 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, count 335

The number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra increased by 33 to 335 on Wednesday, a health official said. Thirty of these cases were found in Mumbai alone, two in Pune and one in Buldhana, he said. The state had reported 302 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said earlier in the day that the number of cases would increase further because there were around 5,000 persons in "high-risk" category.

All but 160 returnees from Tablighi congregation trace in Telangana

Efforts were on to trace around 160 people among the over 1,000 from Telangana who attended the Tablighi jamat congregation in Delhi last month, the state government said on Wednesday.
All but 160 people have been identified and all of them would be tested for coronavirus, state Health Minister E Rajender said. He also said community transmission of the virus has not taken place in the state, which has 77 active cases as of Tuesday.

No pending board exams to be conducted in foreign countries due to COVID-19: CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will not conduct pending class 10 and 12 examinations in foreign countries due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials.
"There are several CBSE schools located in 25 countries. Each of these countries are also under lockdown or have decided to close down the schools for various and differential lengths of time. Under such circumstances, it is felt that the board will not be in a position to hold differential set of exams for each of these countries," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi said.

Assam district bans entry-exit of vegetable carriers to check COVID-19 spread

The district administration of Dibrugarh in Assam on Wednesday indefinitely banned entry and exit of all vegetable carriers into the district in order to prevent spread of novel coronavirus.
Issuing an order, Additional District Magistrate Ranjit Konwar said the rise in the number of vegetable carriers entering the district has increased the threat of spreading novel CoronaVirus in Dibrugarh.

20 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, total count 322

Twenty new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Maharashtra on Wednesday, taking the total number to 322, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said. While 18 cases had come to light earlier in the day, Tope announced in the evening that the count had gone up by two.
"The total number of (coronavirus) positive cases in the state is now 322," he said.

74 flights under Udan scheme operated for medical supplies

As many as 74 flights have been operated, carrying a total medical cargo of 37.63 tonnes, till March 31 to various parts of the country under the civil aviation ministry's Lifeline Udan flights initiative, an official release said on Wednesday.
These flights had commenced operations from March 27. Of the 74 services, 12 flights were operated on March 31 alone, carrying a total medical cargo of 22 tonnes, the ministry said.

Gujarat: 72 Tabligh attendees traced; one dead of coronavirus

The Gujarat Police has so far traced 72 persons to various districts who had last month attended a religious congregation at Nizamuddin area in Delhi, which has emerged as a major source for the spread of coronavirus in many states, a top officer said on Wednesday.
Notably, one of the 72 persons died a week ago of COVID-19 while remaining 71 have been quarantined, state Director General of Police (DGP) Shivanand Jha said.

Delhi Police launch Covid-19 patrol squad

The Delhi Police has launched a 'COVID Patrol' squad to make people aware of the coronavirus, its prevention and to ensure enforcement of the lockdown in the national capital. The patrol has 40 motorcycles and is initially confined to south Delhi areas, IANS reported.
The personnel posted on the team, riding yellow motorclycle with 'Covid-19' written in red, will visit different areas and make people aware of the importance of the lockdown and also ensure it is strictly enforced, ACP Anil Mittal, the spokespersons for Delhi Police, said.

UP reports first two coronavirus-related deaths in state

Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday reported first two deaths due to coronavirus infection in the state with one casualty each in Basti and Meerut amid the total number of corona-positive patients rising to 113.
Out of the 113 infected persons, 17 were fully cured of the infection and discharged, said Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad. Among the two, who died of coronavirus infection, one belonged to Basti and another to Meerut, he said.

COVID-19: PM Modi to hold video conference with state CMs tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra will hold a video conference with all chief ministers on Thursday during which issues such as ways to contain the spread of COVID-19, movement of migrants and contact tracing of Tablighi Jamat participants are likely to come up for discussion, sources said on Wednesday.
The availability of essential items will also be discussed during the conference, they added.

ICMR conducts 47,951 tests for coronavirus till date

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday said it has conducted 47,951 tests for coronavirus till date.
"We have conducted 47,951 tests to date. There are 126 labs in ICMR network. The number of private labs that have been approved is 51," R Ganga Ketkar, ICMR, said at a press briefing. In India, there are a total of 1,637 cases of COVID-19 as of now, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

COVID-19: Trump says US headed for 'very tough', 'painful' two weeks

The US is headed for a "very tough two weeks", President Donald Trump has warned, advising people to be prepared for the "hard days" ahead, as the country was at war with a deadly coronavirus pandemic that the White House projects could claim one to two lakh lives during the next fortnight.
Trump's remarks came as Deborah Bix, a member of White House Task Force on coronavirus, based on a model from actual data from the ground, said the death toll in the US could be between 100,000 to 200,000, with the strict implementation of the existing mitigation measures including social distancing till April 30.
